Greetings,

I remember YEARS ago a customer requiring me to terminate the data on 110 blocks in the equipment room, and then use those patch cables that have a modular plug on one end and a plastic fixture on the other end that pushed into place on the 110 block. They were a little unstable, but once in place seemed to work. I've not used the product for probably 8 years or so.

I currently have one customer who insists they are the cat's meow. I find that they are still available, more expensive, and much harder to find and I can't find any reason to use this system as opposed to the patch panel with modular jacks.

Ideas? Reasons? Others using this system?

thanks,

I wouldn't bother with them.

Using punching down directly will give you a more secure connection. Alternatly you could also use punch-down caps just to ensure they stay in place and make the install look a little cleaner.

i wouldnt use them either. My impression of these is for voice use under conditions where you want to change the location constantly and dont know how to use a punch tool.

alternatively to using a patch panel

i have seen plenty of installations where 110 blocks are used and solid core patch cables are punch directly onto the c-4's and then plugged into the switches.

I thought they stopped making those & now use a bigger type head to connect to the 110 block.

To my knowledge they are referred to as a RJ45 male plug to 110 connector patch cable.

Depending on the total lengths I think there may be an amountable dB loss there.

Why is there never a phone in any of the phone closets?
