Hello all,

I'm setup a lab which requires a WAN connectivity with T1 line speed. I wonder if you know a cheap tool or equipment can emulate/simulate a T1 line. Intel Netstructure 7340 Traffic shaper can do this job but it costs about $25K-30k

Highly appreciate you help in advance.

when you say emulate a T1.. do you want a real T1 or just a back to back connection through a pair of CSU/DSUs with 1.54Mbps connection??

The back to back is very easily accomplished by making a T1 back to back cable. the details are in the serial port FAQ in the this forum. You can run it PPP, HDLC, Frame etc.. you choose.

Sunrise had made testers for field techs but your lab work may be much more demanding. And your needs may evolve so a carefully researched choice today is tomorrow's expensive disappointment. Some people I know try not to buy the expensive stuff unless they must, and then they get the best. They may be broke for a while, but they are not disappointed.

For utilitarian measurements, perhaps a field unit, such as Sunrise T-1 at about $4,000 might be quality solution in its class. Be aware, though, that software and hardware options can double this cost. Murphy's law says you will need them and it will be sooner rather than later.
