We have inherited an Equallogic SAN and were wondering about the drives in it. They look like standard WD2500YS drives. It is only half populated currently. I talked with my current hardware supplier and he said Dell has purchased Equallogic and the 250GB drives aren't being sold by Dell anymore. My question is can i order a regular WD2500YS 250GB drive and use it in the SAN? Or, do i have to buy drives from Equallogic because of firmware on the drive or something similar?
