Equal spacing between grid of images-stroke frame?

Hi, if I set up a grid of square images with equal space between them I usually do this as margins/guides. I have also thought I could inner stroke the frames with the same background colour which is quicker and easier to adjust the size spacing. Is this a good way to achieve this effect?

The best way to do it in CS3 is to use the step and repeat function under the edit menu.

Draw one square go to the menu item and then you can make a certain amount of copies and specify the space between them
