I have an issue regarding a receipt printer. It happens consistently. Its a thermal, partial cut printer.
If an Epson TM-T88ii printer is installed on a Windows 95/98 fat client, works fine.
If it is hooked on the back of the TSE or W2K-TS server, again works fine.
If its on an NT/W2K client thru TSE/TS, works fine.
Also works fine on a WBT running CE.
If its on a W9x client thru either TSE or W2K-TS, the printing is really slow, noisey and condensed. As tho it is a dot-matrix printer.
I've seen it fail on W2K-TS SP2 Metaframe XPa. It also fails on TSE4 SP6 Metaframe 1.8 SP2.
The WTSPURN is configd right, and the printer auto-creates fine.
Have tried latest and older drivers.
Have taken the fonts of the NT-based client and installed on a W9x, no joy.
I am still thinking fonts but haven't had any more time to investigate (so someone else is without any luck), any ideas?

Are there really no suggestions from brilliant Citrix minds? (Don't feel too bad there isn't on the thethin.net either) :)

Perhaps this will only be fixed by changing the client OS to NT-based? thoughts?

HI. Just remembered that I used to sign in here.

This issue is still very real and no fix was ever found.

We can get closer to the right result if we use a text/generic driver on the server and map it thru.

I would appreciate it if you guys could revisit this and offer your best advice (or sympathy).

Cheers

I dislike answering with no answer - but you seem to be trying what I would suggest, so maybe some thoughts could help;

I do find it VERY odd that the printer works with TSE, but not MetaFrame, since MetaFrame picks up its printer settings from Windows.

It's also verging on the unbelievable that it will work when hooked up to a WBT, but not a 9x PC (but I believe you :))

So you're saying that the printer autocreates fine, but simply does not work?

Can I ask the obvious; Are you creating it as a client printer or a network printer?

I can offer some sympathy - I got so fed up with printers that don't work with TS, that every time I do a job I simply refuse to support printers that I can't get to work after 10 minutes in the test lab. I've had to win quite a few arguments over this - luckily my management support me on this issue, at least...

Hope you get it working

Thanks for replying to this one too - so another big [2thumbsup] !!

I think I need to clarify. The printer simply DOES NOT play ball thru any session! It works if we plug the printer DIRECTLY into the terminal server/Citrix server's own physical LPT port.

The issue affects Win 95/98 and presumably ME (although we don't have much call for ME - thank GOD!)

The issue does not affect NT technology (NT4 and 2000) and WBT which I think were running that thin version of NT (whatever its called) but could have been CE - but at any rate the driver is deployed from the 'NT' server.

The problem seems to be between that actual make-up of the w9x driver that is in someway different to the NT-based drivers. (I think the two drivers use different character sets and respond differently to instructions and fonts)

Definately the problem is NOT to do with autocreation.

I appreciate your sympathy especially since I get none here! - and oh how I would like to refuse to support printers! :-(

cheers
