The problem I'm having is that after printing a few lines just fine, the carriage seems to lose it's place and it moves too far to the right, slamming into the side of the printer. After that, it simply stops. Any ideas?

This is a hardware problem.
The sensor is probably gone.

Sorry to say, with how cheap inkjets are today, you are probably best off just replacing it.

If you have any canned air around, try giving it a blow out.
Did anything happen prior to this starting? Paper jam or new cartridges etc?

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it a shot of canned air. This problem just appeared out of the blue. Nothing happened prior to the problem starting. You're right about printer prices being cheap. I'll probably just pick up a new one and provide a proper burial for this one.

Let me know if you manage with the air to get it working again.
Has occasionally worked for me.

Wish I had a happier bunch of advice for you.

Good Luck! Kimber
