1. PC is running Windows 98
2. Printer has been connected via Parallel and USB
3. Until yesterday - no problems with it at all.
4. Parallel port on PC checks out OK

Problem:
When printing a document (from any application) if document is longer than 1 page, then intermittently the printer will stop printing. The software driver does not report any error when this happens except after some time, when it reports that there is a communication failure with the printer.

Q: Is the printer likely to have failed (in terms of communications)?
Q: Should we connect another printer to that PC?

Try deleting the printer. Then re-install the driver.
This may work.
Have you tried a different cable, the one you are using may be faulty.
If you have another printer to hand, you could connect this to rule out any application software problems

In answer to kestrel1:
1. Tried different cable (it supports USB) both parallel & USB - no effect
2. Reloading software has no effect
3. Different printers work OK

How about that printer on another PC? Same problem? Even with a different cable?
