Hi,
Im making a magazine in quark. A lot of illustrations i've made in illustrator. If i import such file into a picturebox in my quark file, i cant see it, it just says "Embedded Postscript image".
But if i export the illustrator file to a 300dpi TIFF file, everything is fine, if i bring this to the printer/press will the fonts and vector images be crisp and sharp or is it better to embed the EPS file?

Hi Jasper.

There should be an option within Illustrator to save the file as an EPS with a preview. Unfortunately, it's been a while since I've fooled with Illustrator. If you can't find such an option, a 300 dpi TIFF will probably print fine as long as your linescreen is no more than 150. I've used TIFFs quite a bit in a pre-press environment with no real trouble. At times it will require some tweaking you might avoid with the vector-based Illustrator EPS though.

DumTech's reply is OK. Save your file out of Illustrator as an Illustrator .EPS file with a preview (if using Windows, select 1-bit preview for a better view in Quark). When you place the picture in Quark, it won't look very good, but at least you will be able to see where it is placed and size it if required. As long as you print to a postscript device, the output will be OK.

Illustrator EPS with a preview is the only way to go. unless you are going to color it in quarkxpress then you will need to save as a tiff and color it with the same color percentage that is in quark. otherwise, quark will not pick up the seperation.
