As far as I can tell (being a complete Crystal newb) all of the components of CE are installed and running properly. I have it set to use ActiveX viewer. When i click the Eportfolio link from LaunchPad, I just get a blank empty page in Internet Explorer. It doesnt give me an error code or anything. I have tried changing the viewer. Services are all running. Any ideas? Thanks !
IE V. 6.0.2
Windows Advanced Server 2000
CE v 9.2.2

Can you get to the Crystal Management Console from the launchpad or any ot the other apps which use csp ?
Can you open the crystal configuration manager and confirm that all of the crystal servers are BOTH running and enabled.

I can get to the CMC from launchpad, and have access to all of the administrative functions. I'm not sure what you mean about making sure the services are all "enabled". I have checked the Windows services manager to ensure that they are running, but I dont see where they can be enabled or disabled. Do they install as disabled by default or something? I appreciate the reply very much by the way.

Scratch that last bit. I cannot see the Crystal Management Console, OR Eportfolio. Both just open in a blank IE frame. Still no error msg or anything. I can go to the Preferences page and use it with no problem.

Open the Crystal Configuration Manager (START>PROGRAMS>CRYSTAL ENTERPRISE 9). Check that all the servers are started (they should all have a green arrow). If there are any that are not yet started, try to start them.

If they are all started and you have the same problem click on 'enable/disable' servers. It will prompt you to login. Then check that all the servers are enabled.

If you still have the same problem restart the crystal servers (right click then select 'restart').

Thanks for your replies. I checked everything you specified, and all services are running and enabled. I still get a blank IE frame when i click the eportfolio link from launchpad. I noticed there is no URL for default viewer in the settings menu. ANythign else you can think of that may cause this?

Do you have a stop pop-ups program running? If you do, turn it off and try again. If that doesn't work you can turn on advanced auditing for the web content directory to see if iusr_[servername] has rights.

I found the problem with Eportfolio not opening properly. It was stupid (isnt it always?) I had a typo in the path in IIS. Now im able to use Eportfolio, but I cant change reports or add reports using the publisher because it says I dont have rights to do so, even though I am logged in as administrator and have rights set to full control. You guys are great, thanks for all your advice. Sorry to ask so much, but im under extraordinary pressure to get this running RIGHT now ! I know you have all been there a thousand times. Im frantically reading the admin guide for these answers as well.

By default the CE Administrator account should already have full rights. Can you add reports manually through the CMC?

If you installed CE while logged in under your NT account then your NT account should already be in the CE admin group. If not you can add it to the group and then try logging in with it in the publishing wizard to see if it lets you publish.

Hi,
The publishing wizard prompts for your username, password and APS - be sure they are provided correctly ( by default, since it is a Windows' app, the APS will be set to the PC running the wizard.)

Can you add reports using the CMC?

Editorial comment follows - feel free to ignore

It is unreasonable of your bosses to expect you to be able to quickly learn and manage a complex system like CE without at least some formal introductory training.

I hear you on the "editorial" and I appreciate the idea. Problem is, they had CR 8.0 running in a browser before, and they dont understand why CE would be any problem to get running. They had to ditch 8.0 because their previous IT guy owned it, and he took it with him. Of couse you cant buy 8.0 anymore...

In reply to your question.. I cannot add an object through CMC. This is what I get:

"There was an error while writing data back to the server: Sorry, you do not have the right to 'Add objects to the folder' (id - 1) for 'starlite reports' (id - 162). Please contact your system or permissions administrator if you require this right."

It DID allow me to add some of the previous reports that were custom made in 8.0 right after the install. I dont know what is different. Those reports run, but dont return any info.

Its a good thing I dont mind everyone in Tek Tips knowing how stupid I am.. I wouldnt be able to post at all if I wanted that to be a secret ;-P I can add objects.. It was a folder rights problem, not an account rights problem. It hit me like a ton of bricks.. Someone PLEASE hit me with a ton of bricks.. and soon ! Now on to the next thing ... getting data on the reports!
