I have a question for any EPO administrators..I am in the process of trying this product (v2.5) and have successfully updated a few pc's to the latest version of virus scan (v4.5.1) from 4.03. When I try to schedule a task to upgrade the dat/engine from a network share it fails. I have narrowed it down to the fact that the service account that mcafee runs under on NT/2000/XP is a local system account and does not have the rights to logon to a share. My question is how do I change the account of mcafee to a domain account when I am upgrading the pc's. I know I can do this manually to each PC, but that kind of defeats the purpose of EPO

In my opinion, ePo is still a product in it's VERY early stages.
We have not upgraded to 2.5 yet, but have been running 2.0 for a while.
Under the update task, there is an area to specify a username/password to use while connecting to the ftp/network_share site. Problem is (at least in 2.0), the agent is not using these credentials to connect to the share.

I called up McAfee on this, and their only recommendation is to make a null-session share where the updates are held. They have full documentation on it and everything.

After adding the share to the list of null-session-shares, all runs well, but I wonder why McAfee would require something with NO security to function?

I was hoping 2.5 would resolve this, but it does not look promising from your post.... :( :( :(

--FYI--
Null-session shares are identified in the registry.
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters\NullSessionShares
must be added using regedt32 as a REG_MULTI_SZ entry
reboot server

Good Luck!

Thanks AnonGod,

I have seen this article on McAfees site, I can't believe this is their only way around this. I'm just not sure if I want no security on my share. I had actually sent an e-mail to McAfee well over a week ago - with no response so far.

Thanks again

* See what u get to look forward to in 2.5 *

I am having a similar problem that EPO is putting a \ in front of my domain/username and causing the connection to fail. No matter what I do the dang \ is there
