Hi,

I am using EPO 2.5. I recenetly built a more robust server for EPO. I use MSDE not SQL for the database. I backed up the database using the DBBak.exe utility. I copied over the file to the new server. I ran the same exe and it said that there was an error and that the database was in use. I made sure I stopped the EPO services on the machine. Is there any other service that I need to stop? I read a document from Mcafee and it says that I only need to stop one service. Or, is what I am doing not possible (taking a database from one EPO machine to a new one). Both EPOs are the same build too.

Thanks,

BM

There is no need for backup!!
Just push out the agent from the new server
and the computers will update.

It dont take long to configure EPO
if you know what you are doing.
Since you already have configured the first
just configure the new with the same config.

Thanks dkmart,

However, re-configuring our EPO dir is a pain in the butt. We have Multiple domains and a lot of child ones as well. I am looking for the lazy-man's way out. I also do not want to do another agent push since we had errors from remote computers regarding the first installation of the agent. Unless, of course, the agent needs to be re-installed to report back to the new server. Then I suppose I have no choice. However, the backup and restore feature should work without problems and that is the method I am hoping to use. Unfortunatley, it says that the database maybe in use every time I execute DBBak.exe. I stopped all necessary services but no luck.

An agent re-installation is my last resort. Unless this is absolutly what I must do.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

BM

Hi,

I think you have to push the agent from the new server.
To make it communicate with the new server
You can run it in a logon script if you like.
If you want to use your old database, just
copy the database file to the new server
and run "Attach Database"(I only know how to this in Enterprise manager)

Try Technet for the right syntax in command mode.

If you ever have to move EPO to a new server you should keep the server name or IP address the same. That way you do not need to re-push the agents out.
