Hi there. I've recently set up EPO 2.5.1 and have managed to push out the agent to over 60% of our workstations.

However, I'm having a few problems trying to push out the agent to W95 workstations.

Looking in the Server Event Viewer is see the error:

Push agent installation program to {NAME} failed.

I've checked on the W95 machine and file and print sharing is activated although allow printers to be shared is not ticked. Does this need ticking also? If not, where else and what else should I be looking for to sort this problem out?

Many thanks

Hi

You need to enable Remote Administration on your Win9x machines to be able to push out the agent.

Can you quickly provide instructions on how to do this?

Many thanks again.

OK guys

I've followed M$'s guide to installing remote admin on W95 workstations but I still cannot push Epo Agent out to these workstations!

What am I missing?

Cheers

You also need FIle and Print Sharing enabled running under "User Level Access" not Share Level.

... take my advice, I don't use it anyway!

Additional info from McAfee's KB:

Problem Description:
Unable to push the ePO Agent to Windows 9x workstations
Minimum Requirements for Pushing the ePolicy Orchestrator Agent to Windows 9x Machines
Pushing the ePO Agent to Windows 9x machines

Problem Environment:
McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator 2.x
Microsoft Windows 9x

Solution:
The ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) Agent may be pushed to client machines running Windows 98 or Windows 95 if the following conditions are met:

1. The client machine must be setup for File and Print Sharing.
2. The client machine must have Remote Administration enabled.
3. The client machine must be rebooted after agent installation.
4. The client machine must have User Level access configured properly.

The following conditions must be met in order to successfully install the ePO Agent on a Windows 9x machine:

1. For agent push installations only, the machine must be rebooted as part of the agent installation process. This software does not have a remote service capability. When POAGINST.EXE runs in either operating system, it updates WIN.INI.
2. File and Print Sharing must be enabled on the client machine.
3. Security must be set at the User Level on the client machine.
4. Reboot the machine to finish the installation.
5. Remote Administration must be enabled on the client machine.

Detailed information on preparing your Windows 9x machines for EPO Agent push distribution can be found on pages 82 - 84 of the E-Policy Orchestrator Administrator's Guide.

Hi AVChap

I've followed all these instructions and double-checked everything, however the Epo Agent still will not install onto the client machine.

I have noted now though that the Server Event Viewer no longer shows any error about the push agent installation failing.

Any ideas?

Many thanks

Try to use a login script, try something like this

if exist %systemdrive%\epoagent\agent.ini then goto finish
r:\epo\poaginst.exe

:finish

I've found the solution. Although I assume it was something obvious I should have thought of before!

I didn't have the C drive shared!!

As soon as I shared the C drive and added the admin user with full rights I could push the agent out to the workstation.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Cheers
