I have a background with unix / linux where server uptime is considered to be a good metric to determine server reliability. Further I have an engineering background where rebooting and other "magic" fixes that don't allow us to understand the root cause of a problem are considered bad(you're not fixing the problem your just hiding it)... As a result today when someone on the Epicor tech support team told me he recommends we periodically reboot our Epicor server I was really surprised. I asked why and he didn't give a clear explanation, it sounded a lot like it's "magic" and fixes lots of problems... I've asked him to send some Epicor documentation so we can verify Epicor is the source of this recommendation and it's not simply the tech's misinformed opinion...

So my question is, do people really periodically reboot their Epicor servers and if so why(what specific problem is being addressed)?

Thanks,
Eddie
