We just recently did a fresh install of SCO 5.0.5 on a HP Netserver LX Pro Dual 133 processors 256meg 2ghd HP10/100VG .

After install we noticed that when entering commands a hesitation at the command line would intermittenly appear. The command entered would show after a short period say 2-3 seconds. Also when doing a l -R from root it would hesitate during the display. We tried this with users off and on the system. No ps appear to be hogging. All RS505a, OS497b and OS600a patches applied. Have checked the SCO TA pages and the only reference to this was with previous versions of the OS. I only assume that the fixes were applied to the latest release. Have performed fresh install on other simular but not exact systems with good results. ie no hesitation. Has anyone run across and resolved this issue...

On a clone running 3.2v4.0 or 4.2 video card caused the problem. But if this also happens on terminals then it doesn't apply.

OK Well I failed to mention that this happens at the ascii based console as well as via a kermit modem session. It has also been noted to happen via any network terminal running Multiview JSB2000 terminal emulation. Thnaks for the reply though and I will note that for other incidents.

edfair,

Well you got me on the right path of thinking. The customer had 2 nic's installed. When we upgraded we attempted to config the first one it found but had some difficulties so we then configed the second cca. Network came up and all was well. We never removed the first nic from the configuration until now. Once it was removed our hesitation issue all but disappeared. We are figuring we had some IRQ issue or some sort. Thanks for the direction....

Have three Terian Servers with Micronic motherboards and adaptec 2940 controllers all with 130 mb ram. with same problem one has fresh install the other two were upgrades planning to do fresh very soon. Same SCO 5.05 with same patches. Will look at the nic, they are all 3com pci, will be looking at the drivers on these maybe the problem? MFG of server suggested the mother board bios or adaptec drivers. Your fix sounds closer to reality. Your adaptec drivers are built into the install aren't they? Probably would discount them unless they were BTLDs. Happened to remember some comments somewhere else about Adaptec 2940s. Seems there are 2 different drivers, depending on which 2940 you had. You may want to look at that possibility. I'm not into anything that modern yet so I can't tell you what the issues were.
