We are just coming up to speed on some of the advanced reporting features of Great Plains 8.0. Can someone help us save a little bit of time by answering a couple of quick, basic questions?

What is the relationship/difference between Enterprise Reporting and Analytical Accounting? Did Enterprise Reporting "become" Analytical Accounting in 8.0?

If we have a chart of accounts with several segments and we need to summarize and consolidate based on different segments, is one tool better than the other? (Our scenario is a company that operates 30 restaurants, and there are a variety of different partnerships that own differing portions of each. We will need to do financials for each restaurant, but also for each partnership.)

This doesn't answer your question but FRx is what we use. I haven't looked at any others but you can consolidate based on different segments and companies.

I have a consolidated rotated P&L where each row is a different company or division, and there is a column each for the financial info such as current, ytd, budget, and you could also show sales, costs, etc.

I also have additional rows that show % of ownership amounts. Have you looked into something like that to see if it would work for you?

Thanks!

OK I was just looking into Enterprise Reporting, and I'm as confused as you are. It looks like a wonderful product, and now I'm wondering if this is an alternative to Great Plains? I see that it has eliminations for related companies, which is what we are looking for.

Thanks!

Yes, it's a little difficult to find information on Enterprise Reporting... are you aware of other ways to do eliminations without it?

Well, first of all we use the same chart of accounts across our companies, and then for the specific consolidated reports, I just manually exclude the interco amounts from the FRx report.

I think with EP probably it's all in the setup in that you tell the system which accounts are elimination accounts.

Our problem is that not all amounts in an account are to be eliminated - it depends on the source ie. customer or vendor. I'm not sure that EP will do this for us but it appears to have alot of other great features.

I guess we can still use FRx and just set up sub-accounts.

I printed off a 5-page pdf document from customer source - did you see that one? It looks like we'll also need integration manager with it.

Do you have an idea of what the price of EP is?

Thanks!
