Hello,

We are looking into Replication by Enterprise Replication in IDS 7.3. We were wondering if Informix has the capability to notify the DBA by email incase of replication failures. Is there any way to capture replication failure through alarmprogram scripts?

Guide to Enterprise Replication for 9.3 does mention about Event Alarms for ER but the event class is not mentioned!

Thank You

Hi:

Class ID 15 is data replication failure

Class ID Message Text
15 Data Replication failure

You should be able to call a shell script/unix program of your choice when the ALARMPROGRAM variable is set in the config file. (After changing ALARMPROGRAM, cycle the engine for the change to take affect).

Years ago, I coauthored a Sys Admin article "A Dispatcher for Database Engine Alarms" located here:

This was written for version 5 of Online, but it's probably still viable.

Thanks Ed! I guess my mistake was to presume that 15 is only for High Data Replicaiton.

On a side note, is there any way in Informix ER to find out what is the lag time between the data on the primary/target database. We want our target database to support reporting. Users want some kind of notification that the target database is relatively real-time with the production data.

Vanaja:

If there's any lag time it's not much. In my world we're always running reports against the replicated server, and nobody has ever complained.

I'm not aware of any method to measure the lag time. If there is significant lag time, I'd think it would be network related.

Ed
