Hi All,

Just wondering if any of you have any experience with this. We’ve been having the well-known web server time out problem, the page server error message, etc, etc,.

CD sent us a couple of “Hot Fixes”, which are supposed to be self installing, you just click and they search for existing files, back them up, and install the newest release. Cool eh?…. WOULD BE IF THEY WORKED!!! Sorry, venting again.

The web patch installed OK, and fixed the time out problem, BUT, it created a problem in the CMC, where, I lost control of all report instances. (roll that sucker back!).

I can’t get the page server patch to even start. It keeps giving me a registry error when it starts.

Rights are not an issue.

It’s my feeling that these fixes may not respond to a Win 2000 Server environment the same as they would to NT.

Comments appreciated,

I've had two specific issues with CE Hot Fixes:
[ol][li]u2fxls.dll from dbexdrvr.zip was supposed to resolve an excel issue where a report with suppressed or on-demand subreports are run during export when they should not be. The patch didn't work.[/li]
[li]crpe32.dll from CE80COM.zip is supposed to help resolve page server/cache server memory issues. I don't know if it did, but my Oracle Blob pictures no longer appeared properly (under any driver, ODBC or Native - previously they only worked under the Crystal ODBC Driver for Oracle). As these pictures are a hard requirement, I had to roll this change back.[/li]

Per my other thread, thread782-240851:
[ol][li]CE80WCS.zip fixed the WCS timeout issue, but it broke key functions in the Crystal Management Console[/li]
[li]CE80APS.zip fixed what CE80WCS.zip broke -woohoo![/li]
[li]The jury's still out on CE80SERV.zip (pageserver and cacheserver fix) and on CE80SDK.zip(infostore.dll fix)[/li][/ol]

Rhinok,

CE80WCS.zip is what screwed up my CMC, will CE80APS.zip really "make everything" ok? I would like to get the time out issue resolved.

CE80SERV.zip (pageserver and cacheserver fix), I can't even get this start, (as per my previous post), does it work for you? What OS are you on?

I'm still testing whether or not CE80APS.zip does anything other than fix the CE80WCS screw-up. I haven't run into any further time-out issues, but I haven't done extensive testing, either. At least it doesn't appear to have broken anything.

I installed the patches on two separate NT 4.0 Servers with SP6a. I also installed the patches on a Win2K workstation that I use as a test machine. So far, so good on all three installations. I haven't installed anything on Win2k Server, so I really can't say.

I'd recommend calling tech support back on that patch.

Is this patch still working well for you? I am about to go through the same routine and am trying to prepare for all the problems.

Thanks in advance

Lisa

I've continued to test and haven't found anything broken by the CE8APS.zip patch.

Hi,

Just an update, I received the APS patch from CD and I can't install it either. I get an error that says,
"The Install Engine (ikerenel.exe)could not be launched. Invalid Access to Memory Location"

CD support seems to be baffeld.

I'll keep ya posted.

CE80WCS.zip messed our crystal management console functions up bad. we had to roll this one back out. it had caused us to problems with the instance tab in objects. it also caused us to not be able to keep our settings in eportfolio. once we rolled it back out all of these problems were corrected.

install with extreme caution!!!

You need to download the CE80COM.zip from CD's FTP site. CD Tech Support will give you the link.

FYI, I had to roll back CRPE32.dll when I installed CE80COM.zip a few months ago due to the fact that my Oracle Blob images were adversely affected by it. I downloaded the latest version of CE80COM.zip this afternoon and the Blob issue has been resolved. Documentation can be found at

Just a word of caution: I have heard from CD tech support that these hotfixes depend on each other, i.e. if you install one, you will need three others or so as well. That would also mean that if you downloaded one of them 4 months ago and the other one just now, you should update the old one too. Pretty time-intensive.
