Enterprise Manager?

Does Enterprise Manager exist for Oracle 10g? I noticed there is a web control interface but I just get blank web pages.

Other than TOAD by Quest Software, are there other recommendations for managing instances?

Are you running this on a PC? If not ignore below otherwise ...

There are a number of services that are required to be started before anything "OEM like" will work. Check out and ensure that all required services are up and running. Look for any likely candidates - mostly beginning with Oracle - and manually start up any that are not showing a status of started. Their Startup Types should also be set to automatic.

PC most likely, but server side is a possibility since we all Remote Desktop to it anyway.

Right now, all Oracle Services are automatic startup and are in the running state (I did a full install, so I don't think there are any missing services)...

I'm coming from an Oracle 9 standpoint here (Oracle 10 is probably different), but do you have a service started called something like OracleOra9IAS_homeEMWebsite i.e for your infrastructure DB

I have...
OracleDBConsole<servername>
OralceJobScheduler<servername>
OracleDBConsoletest
OracleOraDB10g_home1iSQL*Plus
OracleOraDb10g_home1TNSListener
OracleService<servername>

It looks lie you don't have an Infra-structure database. Maybe thats OK. In my case I had to do a

net start Oracleora9ias_homeEMwebsite in order to access a web interface

Perhaps (going by your existing service names) you should try something like

net start OracleOraDb10g_homeEMwebsite.

Apart from that 'fraid I cant help much further. Nearly tore my hair out when trying to set up ApplicationServer/Infrastructure/Forms9/BI on Oracle 9 a few years ago

Greetings,

On the server type:

emctl start dbconsole

The web version doesn't lag like the thick client does so I prefer it.

If you prefer a 10g desktop version of EM (with limited functionality), it's bundled with the 10g client distribution. [noevil]

When I try the emctl command, I get a "Environment variable ORACLE_SID not defined. Please define it"

How do I do that? (Or where is there documentation that tells me how)?

Oops...I found the "set ORACLE_SID=" command and that fixed the undefined env variable. But the emctl command only seemed to turn on and off the OracleDBConsoleXXX service (which was already running)
