Ok. Enterprise Manager works with no problems on the all of the computers it is used on in the office except one. When the computer that EM does not like is trying to get into the server, it hangs up or just takes a very long time to connect to it. Any suggestions???

So after a long time trying to connect to the server.Does it connect successfully or fail?

It comes up. It just takes a very long time. All of the other computers it comes up fast and have no problems.

Maybe the problem of cable.
Did you set up the alias name by Server ip or server name? You can get the SErver ip instead of server name to increase efficiency and gurantee.

I just tried it both ways and it is still taking a long time to connect to the server. I also removed the client tools and reinstalled. Did not work either. What happens is when I connect to the server, it just takes so long to open.

Try this on the client with the problem and two without.

Open a command prompt (Start>Run type cmd and enter),
at the prompt type PING <sqlserver ip address>

Replace the <sqlserver ip address> with the actual IP address.

Run the command. See what kind of response time you get and compare the problem machine to the others. Is there a noticeable time difference? If so, the problem is a network one.

SQLBill,
I just ran those commands and there was no noticeable difference between them.

Are all the clients authenticating the same way? In other words, are the 'good' ones using Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication? And which is the 'non-working' one using?

Are there any errors in the SQL Server Logs?

How about in the Windows Event Logs?

Everyone is using SQL Server Authentication and are set up the same way. There are no errors in the SQL Logs and none in the Windows Event Logs.

Try re-applying the windows Service Pack on the machine in question. This worked for me.
