Hello,

I'm having a problem with my SQL Server 2000 (SP4) Enterprise Manager. It was working fine until today, when it suddenly stopped.
When I try to start it from the start menu nothing happens. I checked the process list and found that mmc process is running. I killed it, tried again - same thing, mmc starts but nothing shows on screen.
I started mmc manually and tried to load enterprise manager's .msc file manually - no luck again, as soon as I load it mmc hangs and I have to kill it.
Mmc itself works fine - I have no problems with loading, for example, eventvwr.msc, also SQL Server seems to be working fine - I can connect to it using Enterprise Manager from remote machine.

Any ideas ? I'm a bit stuck :)

Cheers,
Michal

Check which version of MDAC you have installed. Is it the latest?

Reinstall it. Get your SQL Server install disk, do the install, but only select the Client Tools Only and then you'll be able to select specific tools, select the EM.

On the CD grab the \x86\BINN\SQLEM.MSC and replace the one on your machine called "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\SQL Server Enterprise Manager.MSC"

OK, case closed.
Reinstalling .msc files did not help (tried it before), something else did, maybe someone will find it useful in future.
I removed all entries in HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\SQLEW\Registered Servers X\SQL Server Group and everything was back to normal (except server registrations of course, had to recreate them).
I think that maybe the reason for all that mess was a change I made in MSSQLSERVER service configuration - I set the service to run as local service account (it run as a user before) - that's the only thing I can think of, as I made no other changes.
Thank you guys for your help.

Michal
