We currently have 3 Exchange 2000 servers all running Enterprise edition (we have a front-end server and also the database size is currently 25Gb).
We are planning to upgrade to Exchange 2003 soon, and I was wondering if we still need the Enterprise edition for all 3 servers. I know that the databse size limit can be increased to 75Gb in the standard edition of 2003, but what about the use of front-end servers for OWA, do they still need Enterprise edition? Can we go from Exchange 2000 Enterprise edition to Exchange 2003 standard edition?

75Gb will be available in SP2 which is currently being tested (not released officially yet)

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

So the 16 GB limit will be raised to 75 GB with SP2? Is that what I am reading or am I on the wrong boat?

correct.

but will Exchange 2003 standard edition allow you to have a front end server (unlike Exchange 2000 standard) thus getting rid of the need for us to use Exchange 2003 Server Enterprise edition?

Advanced Server is no longer required for front-end servers.

I don't think you can do an in-place upgrade from 2000 enterprise to 2003 standard, but you could of course introduce a new server into the admin group.
