Being new to pagemaker can someone please give me a little assistance. I am creating a newsletter using a template and have entered headings graphics, adjusted the layout etc. However when I am entering the main text the word split or appears with a hyphen if it reachs the end of the page or layer rather than drop down on to the next line. ie:

between ends up as be-
tween,

Management ends up as Man-
agement.

I have tried changing the alignment and font but to no avail.

Hope this is clear.

Regards.

Hi, Brito,

Brito,

If you are willing to experiment, you can go to Type> Hyphenation and turn off hyphenation. When hyphenation is turned on, you have the choice of manual only, manual plus dictionary (preset), and manual plus algorithm (the math thing going here). You can also set the number of picas that the hyphenation zone works within. I think the default is 3 picas. It is set that way on my PM because I work in picas. If you work in inches, the default hyphenation zone is 1.5 inches.

By experimenting with a text frame that is misbehaving, you may come upon a setting that you like.

If the baseline of your document is of no concern, you can also use the up or down arrow on the control palette to make the font size grow or shrink. That could solve your hyphenation problem quickly.

Good luck.

Daniel
