I am writing a (non-commercial) database for my sons' swim team so I need to enter race times in minutes, seconds and fractions of a second format. In Excel I can do this with "mm:ss.00" as the format but Access will not accept the equivalent "nn:ss.00" as a format, always telling me I have entered invalid data and insists on me entering hours. I could enter the time as a number of seconds but this would be unwieldy for the longer races. Anyone had a similar problem and solved it? Thanks

You might try creating a table, setting the type to Date/Time, then in the window at the bottom of the screen use the Input Mask->Edit List to make up your own setting.

does that help?

Keep in mind that Access manipulates time as a double number and does not allow only for the expression of time. You also have to deal with the date as well. Take a very close look at article Q130514 on the MSKB. It also contains a number of very good functions to manipulate time. the one for elapsed time and the way MS computes a real time difference may be enough to solve your problem.
Good luck. Robert Berman
