Is there any way I can avoid having to enter domain\username when prompted for the authentication to a SPS 2007 site. I know I can set this in Internet settings. But I was wondering if there was a server side setting that could be done.
Interestingly firefox does not require me to enter the domain name, even from a machine that is nor part of the domain.
So, until we can convince everyone to migrate to Firefox, can anyone advice on the issue.
Thanks.

In IIS there's a text box to enter the assumed domain and realm. I saw this done on another server and it works but I've yet to get it to work on my lab environment.

MaxEd,
Thanks for the info. Could you tell me where exactly is the text box in IIS you are talking about..

Ok,
That works, but one slight problem. I have to have to have basic authentication turned. Then users can enter only enter the username and password to authenticate.
The problem is this. When users first browse to the site, they are not prompted for the password. Only when they try to access certain sections of the site, only then do they require to authenticate. But there are many users who will never have to authenticate and need to browse to the main page.
Now everytone requires auth. Now I still have anonymous auth enabled and it says that authentication is required only is anonymous auth is disabled. Why am I still prompted for auth then?
Please advice.
Thanks.

See if changing the "Anonymous" access in the application is set to allow "Anonymous".

A few suggestions and things to check:

1. All top level sites access permissions should have NT/Authticated users as visitors to the site. If so then all users will have view access to site.
2. When all other sites are created make sure that they inherit permissions from parent site.

Sorry for the late post, but I checked all that. But still no luck.
Thanks.
