Ive been infomred that some of the functionality of Sharepoint requires that the documents be within enhanced fodlers. Ive looked high and low for information on enhanced folders but with no luck.

Does anyone know what these are?
Are they created by Sharepoint?
Can you create them independantly of sharepoint?

Were doing a data migration to a SAN and Im looking to move the data into the enhanced folders ready for Sharepoint.
Any help much appreciated.

Hi

Sharepoint creates the enhanced folders when a workspace is created, which is accessed using web folders. By default the documents folder is set to enhanced as this is generally where your douments will be stored, but other folders can be enhanced, e.g. under Portal content.

The enhanced folder provides the version control functionality, check out, check in, publish also keeping track of previous version of the documents.

By default if you create a new folder under an enhanced folder the new one will also be enhanced. But the folders can be altered back to normal by viewing the properties and unchecking the enhanced check box.

NB.
If documents have been added to a folder you are unable to change its type (Enhanced to normal, Normal to enhanced), if this requirement every occurs, you will first have to move all the documents out of the folder, change its type and then move the documents back.

hope this helps

Steve
