Good afternoon,

I have recently purchased an EnGenius AP/Bridge EOS-2610 but I'm no networking expert and urgently need an answer to a simple problem that is baffling me!

1. IP Disappeared
When I first hooked up all this gear I was able to hit the default IP address in my browser, log in, change my password, and change the setting from Bridge to AP, for example. After a few hours I could still hit the IP address but logging in would timeout. Then I couldn't hit the IP address at all, which is where I am at now. Why has this happened? I have my firewall turned off.

2. Which Setting to repeat wifi
I can see a whole load of wifi netowrks but I am unsure how to use my box to boost/repeat the signal from any one of these networks. Firstly which setting do I set my box to: Access Point, Client Bridge or Router? Then what do I do? I presume I change the TCP/IP to a range within the IP of the box?

Any help with these two points would be gratefully received.

Regards

When you set it to AP mode you need to set it with a static IP address then you access it using the IP you set statically.
Are you trying to use it to bridge to another wireless network?

Aha, that may be where I went wrong. Whilst playing around with it I set it as an AP but didn't set a static IP for it. Do I have to reset the box in order to start again or is there another way of changing this setting?

I get confused with terms like bridge but what I was trying to do was find an open network in my area and connect to it. I was using the EnGenius box to find the signal for me as my laptop's network card isn't that powerful. Should I have set it to brdige' or 'router'? I get confused, my apologies.

Bridge should work and to log back into it you set a static ip in the 192.168.1.x range on your computer and plug into the radio.
For example ip=192.168.1.10
subnet=255.255.255.0
gateway=192.168.1.1

(Using it to bridge to someone elses network without their permission is not legal)

But why is that the default IP address of 192.168.1.1 that I used to log into the router/ap no longer works? If I put this in my browser it hangs for 30 seconds and then fails to connect.

Sometimes they can be a real pain to get into once set to AP.
Did you set the static IP on your computer?

Yes. Please just let me just clarify, if I may (I appreciate your time on this one!):

1. I log into the AP using the default IP of 192.168.1.1
2. Once in I set a new static IP address of this box
3. Now in order to log into that AP I have to change the IP of my network card on my laptop

Questions:

1. Can the new static IP address be any number I want or does it have to fall within a range?
2. What IP address do I use for the laptop?
3. Is all this relevant still if I then change the magic box from an AP to a Bridge?

To tlcscousin,

Thanks for your assistance, I have HALF solved the problem. I will post up a new thread as it doesn't really fall into this thread.
