Hi,

Our trunks were down recently. I called our service provider and it was reported by the Telco that the exchange was down and PSTN services affected. The lines were restored however we do have a problem. Whenever you dial an outside line there is a engaged tone. I have checked on the MDF and there are dial tones on our trunks. But each time you dial an outside line you have this engaged tone. Is there any thing I can do to resolve this problem? I am a lowly user and we use ips2000 with dterm series phones.I do have manual and MATworx but bit difficult to follow

Would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks in advance.

It is possible that whatever took down the exchange also damaged your system!first thing I would try (because it is so quick) is a system reset. However to words of caution first you need to make sure you have a current backup and that the current config is written to the flash rom. So log in with matworx and when connected click on the little IC icon and follow any prompts, that should ensure the flash is up to date, then do a backup to disk.

The reset button is the little black button on the CPU but before you press it you need to make the voicemail busy (assuming you have one built in, if its external it doesn't matter) that is done by switching the silver make busy switch and waiting till it has parked the hard drive (give it 3 or 4 minutes, there is a lamp indication but I don't have the details to hand).

After the reset let the VM back in by throwing the switch back and test everything.

If that doesn't fix it you will probably need a tech to visit!

I just reset the system and it has done wonders! Thanks Ozzie. However something else has come up. While testing my authority code I have discovered that I can be able to call landlines but not mobile numbers from my dterm.Everytime I call a mobile number there is a long delay before the busy tone comes up. I suspect the settings for my phone has been offset. How can I restore the proper settings so that mobile communication can eventuate? I am able to call between mobiles so signal strenght is ok.

Many thanks.

Sounds like mobiles are routed differently to local.

This takes us into LCR which can be complicated!

Read the FAQ on LCR and see if you can follow it, if not post back and we will try to help!

Thanks OzzieGeorge, this is what I've got.

Sorry

I don't know what mobiles begin with in your area of the world so is Cmd 8A4000 relevant? and what is the setting in 8A4000 for a working number?

We are lookong for which route may be faulty so the 8A0000 info is the interesting bit. We need to see if the working one is different to the non working (I would expect it to be)! this will point us to a trunk route and we can see what trunks are in that route using Cmd 3000. Then you can get the service checked by the carrier.

The mobiles are 8 digits long begining with 72xxxxxx. I have also tried the speed dials 4 digits long starting with 5xxx and the calls after a long attempt to connect (almost 10 seconds) dropoff. The landline in this area are 7 digits long and start with 3xxxxxx

To call a mobile on a speed dial you just dial the 4 digits and get connected.
If you want to use authority code you first enter a code (*5), 4 digits(PIN) , 0 then the mobile/landline number. ( *5xxxx0)

Using CM8A4000 this is what I get if I enter the area code which is 5

CM8A4000>5:1001 this shows the tenant pattern 00.

Pardon me but I'm stoned in finding the settings for a working number...I'm not even sure if I'm following correctly. Thanks OzzieGeorge.

I don't know if I'm following correctly..

Ok so LCR is confusing for a lot of people so don'y worry, we will try and work through it. However we are trying to find a route that is down so if there are other clues to what the route is, you should check them to speed things up.

Following what you have already posted we went off the rails with command 8A4000! in command 8A4000 the second data you should be entering is the first few digits of the number you are dialling. The reason I say the first "few" digits is because depending on how it was programmed it can be expanded or contracted as needs be. so keep trying till you get a sensible result it may be 7, it may be 72 or even 72X ( the x being 0 to 9) or even 7xxxx.

So for a number that works check out the number you dial less the access code which is probably 9 and follow the instructions above!

Post back with the results and we will take it further.

Seems you have quite a complex system with multiple tennants! Are they all having problems with mobiles?

72 takes us to 1005 so that leads us to 0019 to 0022 depending on which tennant the extension is in!
So now we need to look at 8a0019 to 8a022 first data 01 to find out the first choice outgoing route/s!

Post back with details!

Thanks OzzieG.

Ok so they all go out on route 10 so that is the route with the problem. What's more there is no second choice route (>2:none). The complicated bit now is what's in route 10

For that go to Cmd 3000 and start at trunk 001 and work your way up till you find the trunk numbers assigned to route 10. The firs clue will be how many trunks there are. There will be 20+ if ISDN (in the US) or 30+ (if in an ETSI using country) If over 24/30 then post back with the exact number! Note: once you get a valid response, you can "step on" rather than having to enter a new trunk number each time!

I am assuming there are no restrictions related to the tennancy as the 005, 050, 051 would be where we were looking if that were the case.

Here's what I have using CMD 3000

So I have 5 trunks on trunk route 10?

Thanks OzzieG.

Ok so I have just read back over the thread and a few points need to be checked. you originally say you are using an authority code, is it possible that auth code is assigned to tennant 3 as following the LCR, tennant 3 has no outgoing setting! did you do Cmd EC6 before the reset? a quick way of checking would be to use Cmd 8A0022 de 1 de 00510 exe then try dialling out again!

If you then want to remove this setting use Cmd 8A002 de 1 de CCC exe!

Best to check this before going forward, if this doesn't resolve the problem, I would ask if you have any GSM units attached to the system as all tennants are using the same outgoing for mobiles which to me implies that there may be other arrangements for billing these calls such as an agreement with the carrier based on the number called.

It is also possible that there may be digit addition in the LCR that we haven't investigated yet but we'll leave that till later. I think we may be getting beyond the realms of something solveable over the internet but I'm willing to keep trying if you are.

Sorry was out of office for sometime. I am able to make mobile calls now. The telco just called to say that something at their end needed to be reset! And it took them a month to respond!!
Thanks OzzzieG for the walk-thru.Ive definitely learnt a thing or two on LCR. Much appreciated.

It had to be either a carrier problem or something we lost on the reset! Glad it was the carrier!

Hop this was helpful!

Ozzie
