I use CR XI to create my reports for the end user who views them in McKesson's PHS application. When the end user clicks on a view tab they see my report as a PDF. Clicking on the printer icon will send the report to print to whatever the crystal report printer is set to in the page set up. I want to be able to have the end user print locally from the default printer on their desktop. Is there a way I can set up the report in Crystal so that the end user will be able to print from their desktop default printer, not the printer on the set up page? I have tried clicking 'no printer' and setting it to a local non networked printer but have had no luck.

In your report, go to the File menu and select Page Setup. There should be way to set the report for "No Printer (optimize for display)". I know this is available in Crystal 2008, and I think it's in XI, but I don't have a copy of XI available to check.

A computer only does what you actually told it to do - not what you thought you told it to do.

i do not know how this will work using mcKesson's PHS as i have never used it, but in other situations this has worked.

Create an imaginary printer on your system using print drivers from some model of printer that you are nearly certain will never be available to the end user.
in the Crystal report, set up the imaginary printer as the printer for the report.
Now when the end user runs the report, the imaginary printer will not be available and it should use the user's default printer instead.

I think I may have solved my problem but the reports that I check marked as 'no printer' in page setup of CR XI will not allow me to go back into the page setup and correct what I need to. Why is this happening?

Can you get into Page Setup at all? If so, try unchecking 'No Printer' and see if you can get to what you need.

No I can't seem to get into page setup at all. The reports I had a a problem with I sent to someone with CR XI, he was able to access it and correct it for me. I think I need to reload my local copy of CR XI on my laptop.
