Hey,

Been trying all morning to find a date that avaya will stop supporting the Merlin Legend. Still trying to convince the company that we need a new system, as we're we'll be near capacity after the upgrade, and at the rate we're growing, we'll need a new one in 2 years anyway.

Anyone know when the end of life will be?

Thanks,

Danny

They stopped supporting the Legend and Magix systems - some time ago. If you want the specific date - go to Avaya.com; under the heading "Get Support" - click on the word "documentation". Once you get the alphabet bar, click on M; scroll to Merlin Legend Communications System and click on it, click on View all Documents and scroll to the "End of Support" document and view it or download it.

Sorry - my mistake - it's not there.

I know they stopped producing parts, but we still have a maintenance agreement. I was asking about when they will say "We're not going to be able to help you when it breaks anymore."

Usually they extend support for 3 years after a product is discontinued. But there are plenty of people here - who can help - and parts should be readily available for many years to come.

There are TONS of parts in the aftermarket; and REFURB is still going strong as well.

Anyone and Everyone involved with this product is doing anything and everything to keep it that way.

You can still find design, programming, installation & repair support as well. (Not to mention after market Tier-3 Level support too.)

Those of us who support these systems consider the Legend & Magix to be the MOST STABLE SMALL TO MEDIUM SYSTEMS EVER.

It is sad to know, however, that you are still being taken advantage of with the Maintenance Agreement. I would suggest dropping that and letting one of the experts available in this forum or other forums give you the opportunity to save a bunch of money and have as good or better service than what you get now.

For instance, how much per month are you paying for the maintenance of 1 MLX Set? And, how many months have you paid that? Multiply that out and equate the cost of a REFURB SET.

The result will show that you have paid for that MLX Set about 10 or 20 times. - - And, it's still sitting there giving you good service. - PLUS - YOU ARE STILL PAYING FOR IT AS WELL!

I learned long ago that Maintenance Agreements & Extended Warranties are more insurance than you usually need.

UPGRADE - If you go the IPOFFICE Route, you are probably looking at (not knowing the config) anywhere between $20K & $30K for a system.

Unless you are about to exceed the 80 Line & 200 Station capacity, that would probably be overkill.

If you are just sick and tired of the old SQUARE BUTTON MLX Sets, you could move into the MAGIX arena, with "Cuter" sets and a fancier Voice Mail, for a WHOLE LOT LESS.

These are just some things to get you thinking about which way you may want to go.

I think the end of sale date for the Magix was April 1, 2006. I'm not sure about the Legend.

I whole heartedly agree with Merlinman. There is plenty of Magix equipment out there just waiting for a good home.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Hey guys,

Thanks for the info. We did drop the maintenance on the phones and the wire coverage. We just have it on the switch. I don't want to get rid of it, because it's already in place so if something breaks, I don't have to learn how to fix it. I'm a network admin, and phone systems really don't interest me.

The reason I'm pushing for the new system is, in fact, because we'll be at about 180 stations after this upgrade, and with how fast we're growing, it'll be 2 years before they want 20 or 30 more phones.

I only recently thought to look on tek-tips for help with this system, and boy am I sorry I didn't before. You guys have all been great!

Thanks,

Danny
