I know this is a silly question for most of you advanced folks, however for me this is a puzzle. We have a Merlin 7.0 system here and I am trying to modify the functionality of it. I am not a PBX guru, nor do I even have access to the locked equiptment room with our PBX in it for more version information. Here is the situation:

Our receptionist recently left and while we try to fill the position we have setup primary cover buttons on two of our other exntensions. This works fine, however we want to know how we can easily enable and disable this feature. For example, today one of our senior managers has a low work load so is helping out with the reception, but on Monday they might not be able to. How can they push a button to disable coverage?

Remove the primary cover buttons - and put them back on each/any phone when you need them. To look up the version/inventory of what you have in the locked phone roon - at the receptionist console, press menu, then choose maintenance, then press inventory, then press more for each next module until you see blank info. The first screen will be for the processor and tell you type and software release. Each successive screen will cycle through the installed modules going from left to right. Press home to exit.

I will most certainly check out the version information and keep it on hand for further questions. Is there something more simple than "removing" the coverage button? A pause, disable or suspend feature anywhere? The people I work with are all sales based, they can crunch numbers like anything but me trying to instruct them to push a button makes their heads explode. I'm looking the easiest way to allow people to cover for the receptionist and then decide themselves when they no longer wish to do so.

You can program a coverage "off" button and use it to toggle coverage "on and off" The code is **48 - but you will need to program an extra button. If one is not available - do the first option

Do you use Night Service to send calls to an Auto Attendant? If not, you could add or delete extensions from the Night Service group, add a NS button to the Operator's extensions, then turn it on when you need coverage.
