Encryption Using W2k3 Backup Utility

Hello, Which is the easiest way of Encrypting Data Directories and then backing up the Encrypted data on to DDR4 Tapes. If a directory has been encrypted can the information be transfered on to the standard backup tape using the Windows Built in backup utility?

If there is a better way please let me know.
