We need encryption software to encrypt sensitive data concerning people's donations etc and send it back and forth via email.

Can anyone suggest a good package?

Use PGP.
It is a very strong encryption and it can be handled very easy in common Emailtools.

A freeware version for private use can be downloaded from

We use PGP too. It got us around having to deal with the Commerce Department if we were to export anything we wrote ourselves. It's also multi-platform.

Although PGP is good, I would not suggest using it for really sensitive data because the U.S. government is being unreasonable in wanting some sort of back-door access to it. Instead, I suggest you either use an AES implemation. --Sapient2003 - sapient@sapient2003.com

But isn't AES a symmetric cypher, that requires a separate key exchange outside of email?

Plus, more than likely the original poster is using MS Outlook, and PGP integrates with it fairly well.
