Hello everyone,

I'm using ARCserve 11.5 on a Windows 2000 server.
When I turn on encryption on my backup job, it takes 6 to 8 times longer to finish, lifting the total backup time from almost 1,5 hours to almost 10.
Is there some way to improve this speed? Encrypting the data shouldn't be thát much of a strain, should it?

Thanks in advance.

Encryption is CPU intensive IIRC by enabling encryption, you asking for 162-bit triple-DES.

See these FAQs for more information:

You can try using a go-between at 120-bit by setting the following registry entry:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Computer Associates\BrightStor ARCserve Backup\Base\Task\Backup\

Set the value FastEncryption to 1

run cstop and cstart for it to take effect.

Thanks Vschumpy, I'll have a look at what you said. The second link was something I've been wondering as well, very usefull.
