Encryption Problem with Cognos Configuration on Framework Manager WS

All:

I tried to create a new project from my Framework Manager PC. When I changed Cognos Configuration to address the new dispatcher and tried to save the configuration, I got an error on the second item - Generating cryptographic information. It gave no details. When I try to save it again, a dialog box pops up offering to let me save it as plain text. If I save it, the configuration completes, but creating a new project does not - says it cannot find user/password information. If I click No on saving as plain text, then I get a Java error:

[Cryptography]
1. [ERROR]java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I had this same problem and Cognos tech support sent me a document telling me to:

1. Exit Framework Manager and Cognos Configuration
2. Backup the crn_install_dir\configuration folder
3. From the crn_install_dir\configuration folder, remove these directories (which will be backed up from the previous step):
-csk
-signkeypair
-encryptkeypair
4. Open Cognos Configuration and click save to Apply the configuration.

If you continue to get (new) errors:
5. In the crn_install_dir\configuration directory, rename crnstartup.xml to crnstartup.xml.bak
6. Rename your latest crnstartup_<date>.xml file (eg. crnstartup_20050812091944.xml) to crnstartup.xml
7. Open Cognos Configuration and save the configuration
8. Make sure that the correct settings are in effect in Cognos Configuration (because you are reverting to a previous save of Cognos Configuration in step 6)

All this is done on the client workstation. So far it has seemed to work.
