I want to copy data from an encrypted pdf document to an Excel worksheet. The security is set to block content copying or extraction. Only printing is fully allowed. The Document Security screen shows:

Security Method: Acrobat Standard Security
User Password: No
Master Password: Yes
Printing: Fully Allowed
Encryption Level: 40 bit RC4

Is there a way to enter in a Master Password at some point and enable copying? These documents are located on the internet.

You can unlock the document and change the settings in Acrobat by going to File->Document Security->Change settings.

However, I don't think Reader allows this, only the full version

This question, and similar versions of it, come up over and over again. While there are various programs and methods out there to "break" PDF security, the legality is dubious at best.

Also, the security is in place because the document author wanted it that way! The best bet in every case is to contact the document author, tell them what you want to do with the document, and get their permission and assitance.

Although I do have the full version of Acrobat, since the pdf documents are on the internet, I'm only able to open them with in my browser. There is no way to access the document security settings in Internet Explorer.

If you browse to a PDF, you've got the PDF. It's in your cache, for one thing. Also, you can CTRL-S save the document through Reader, or even just use IE to save it.

But if you don't know the Master Password, you won't be able to change the security settings anyway.

Thank you tgreer...this simple answer will help very much.

have you tried installing a printer driver that behaves like a printer but only prints to txt file. you can then just import the date you need to excel?

search the web for one of those :)
