Hi,

I am trying to play an old windows 98 game called The Orion Conspiracy. However when I attempt to play the game, it says I do not have enough EMS memory available. Could someone please tell me how to enable ems on windows 98 as when I go to the games properties, it doesn't see EMS as turned on?

Thanks.

Load EMM386.EXE in your CONFIG.SYS

Sorry, could you explain how to do that? I'm not too savvy with Windows 98 anymore.

Alright, there's a file that has directions on what drivers to load on your system that's called CONFIG.SYS. It's on the main folder of your bootup drive. To get EMS memory, you have to load a driver called EMM386.EXE. It should be somewhere in your Windows folder path.

To load the driver, you need to put something like:

Code:
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\EMM386.EXE

In the file. Or it might already be there, I don't know. In that case, you need to do some Google reading, since there are a load of parms that can be used with this driver, and a lot of times people only load it as a HIMEM provider.

Hope you get it figured out.

Thanks for the suggestion. I do remember enabling that beforehand and double checked and it was there, and the game still gives me that stupid message. Would you happen to have any other ideas?

Thanks.

Are you running this in a win98 box or using some kind of virtual Pc software to emulate win98.

You may need to modify the EMM386 settings to allocate more memory.

Edit your config.sys, and add more memory to the size paramter:

I am using my old computer and running windows 98 off of there. I am not using virtual software.
