Hello,
I'm a Clariion guy trying to learn symmetrix. I have a DMX1000 with several front end adapter ports connected to Windows, AIX and Unisys mainframe.
Two of the ports (FA 15b1 and 2b1) are not currently used. I would like to connect them both to a development AIX server. I can easily patch them into our two Cisco MDS switches and zone those ports to the two HMAs on the AIX box.
I'm guessing that I would then use ECC - right click on the port and click Configure. I would then click on Logical Device Configuration and create my new symmetrix devices. I'm guessig that I could then use either ECC or command line to map the new devices to the 15b1 and 2b1. We don't have the VCM LUN masking but my development AIX box would be the only one zoned to 15b1 and 2b1. I would then run and AIX cfgmgr and powermt config to see the new devices on the host.
Does this make sense? These will be new devices - is it ok to do this config during the day while the DMX1000 is getting by other applications? I do this type of thing on the Clariions all day long but have never done anything on the DMX yet.
