is there a way to enable TTR's or are they all bad. I have done the test on an idle system and I am getting error tones.

Well, I guess I would have to ask what cards do you have in your system, and how are you testing them.

I certainly could understand that if you had only 1 module with TTR's and it was bad, then YES, you would determine that they are all bad.

However, I would rather doubt that would really be the case.

Post your layout and let's take a look.

This is how it is configured:
Merlin Legend Processor Rls 7
408 GS/LS ID
008 GS/LS
016 with Ring Gen
Merlin Messaging
008 MLX

According to your configuration, you have 6 TTR's (2 in the Messaging module, and 4 in the 016 T/R module).

I would do the TTR test - as follows:

Use a single-line phone connected to an available 016 T/R port.

1. Pick up the handset; then dial *04 and the 2-digit number of the TTR you want to test. The first TTR - would be 01, the next one will be 02, etc.

If you hear a busy tone, the TTR receiver is in use/off hook.
If you hear a reorder tone, you have misdialed or have reached an invalid TTR. Try again.
If you hear a dial tone, go to Step 2.
2. Dial 123456789*0#.
You should hear a dual-tone multi-frequency (DTMF) signal as you press each button. If the test is successful, you will hear a two or three-beep confirmation tone one to three seconds after you press #.
3. Hang up and repeat Steps 1 and 2 for each TTR.
4. If this test fails, replace the module containing the faulty TTR.
If all TTRs fail this test, repeat the test, using a different telephone that works. If the tests are
successful, replace the original telephone.
If users cannot make outside calls on a Touch Tone telephone, check the system programming for the individual trunk for rotary-dial programming.

I would also look at the processor error logs to see if you have any TTR-related errors.

Under maintenance, you can also look at the status of each TTR in the system.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am not on site right now but I have gone to the 016 card with my known good butset and tried the test on ttr 01-06 and all I get is dead air.
I have also checked the error log and there were alot of ttr errors but I do not remember what the were. I will let you know Monday. They only use the 016 card to tranfer to 2 locations they are not for dial out. The reason why I checked the TTr's is because I was haveing problems with Message waiting lights. I cleared the one that wouldn't go off and did a refresh to try to get the other to light up. That didn't work. At that point I enabled rotary and lights work now. I was just trying to figure out why they stopped working, I didn't think I had two bad cards.

For Merlin/Magix Messaging - the voicemail ports HAVE to be rotary enabled. Since the voicemail has two TTR's - you may be surviving on just those two. The ones on the 016 module may have been busied out by the system - if they are defective. Again - you can tell by looking at the status of the TTR's through the maintenance menu. Look at the processor error logs or just print them - and look them over at your leisure - they can tell you a lot about your current problems. Use a regular cheap single-line phone instead of your butt set to test the TTR's. At least some HAVE to be working - or your voicemail system would be totally incapable of doing anything.
