I am trying to do FTP to a SunOS 2.6 Server but after put the login name on the FTP prompt, and after put the correct password, the server gives me the bellow error:

"530 Login incorrect.
Login failed."

I don't know what to do because the user is correct and also the password.

Did someone know the solution? Virgilio Valente

The username/password couldn't be correct, as that is what the error means.

Can you log in to the server normally (through telnet for example)?

Is your CAPS-LOCK key on?

Greg.

Is the user allowed to use ftp?

On our Solaris 2.5 machine, man ftpd says ...

in.ftpd authenticates users according to four rules.
1) The user name must be in the password data base, /etc/passwd, and have a password that is not null. A password must always be provided by the client before any file operations may be performed.

2) If the user name appears in the file /etc/ftpusers, ftp access is denied.

3) ftp access is denied if the user's shell (from /etc/passwd) is not listed in the file /etc/shells. If the file /etc/shells does not exist, then the user's shell must be one of the following:

/usr/bin/sh /usr/bin/csh /usr/bin/ksh /usr/bin/jsh /bin/sh /bin/csh /bin/ksh /bin/jsh /sbin/sh /sbin/jsh

check the username and password, then make sure that the username you wish to use is not listed in /etc/ftpuser file.
