I know someone has to have this working! I have tried as many things as I can think of to get SoureSafe to work with Visual InterDev and I've come up shooting blanks everytime.

In fact, when I do get it working, I'm writting a FAQ on it!

I have one developement machine. It's running Windows 2000 Profesional. It has IIS installed on it. It has the Source Safe client installed on it. The client is pointing to a SS database out on the network. Visual InterDev is installed on the same Windows 2000 machine.

When I try to add a file to source control, I get the following message:

Cannot estabilsh source control for the Web application. The server does not have a source control system install on it or the user name is not recognized.

I've been out the Microsofts site and I've read through the Q17116 document more times than I can remember, but I still can't get it to work.

Dose anyone know of a FAQ somewhere that give step by step instructions on how to integrate the two of the togehter?

I don't know a whole lot about IIS, so if you give directions on how to set something, please be specific.

Thanks in advance, Snaggs

Its not so easy to configure Source Safe with interdev. Apparently its easier in .Net.

But basically it is the web SERVER that does the check-in/out on your behalf. Furthermore, VI talks to the web server via Frontpage Server Extensions (FPSE).

Therefor, Source Safe must be visible from the Web Server - and in practice needs to be on the same box as the Web Server. The Web Server must have FPSE.

If you get check-in/out working, then you may still find that the files are always checked out to the IUSR_servername user. Your webs need to restrict access to IUSR_Servername to read-only - then they will be forced to get YOUR login id for Check-In/Out. (Content Management)
