I'm a beginner and would like to know how i can enable/disable the "dma" function as well as the "autorun" function of the CD-ROM.

Change "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom\autorun" from "1" to "0". Heath

DMA is not enabled in Windows 2000 by default, and this is most often the most overlooked, yet most-complained about performance issue between previous versions of Windows.

To fix this:
Right-click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select "Hardware", then "device manager"...

The one you want to expand is your Primary and Secondary IDE channel under "IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers".

Set them to 'DMA if Available"..not PIO.

Pbxman is correct, but even doing that does not completely turn on DMA. UDMA66 support is off by default in Win2K. Setting the drives to DMA does not turn this on. You have to do this in the registry. If you dont like messing with it you can open up NOTEPAD and do the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000]
"EnableUDMA66"=dword:00000001

Pnce this is doen go to file and SAVE AS.. and save the file as:
udma66on.reg

Once save double click on the file and it will load the file into the registry automatically.

Here's another way too.

ATA/66 support is disabled by default.
If your device supports it, and you have a proper 80-conductor IDE ribbon cable, you can enable it by using Regedt32 to navigate to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000

On the Edit menu, Add Value name EnableUDMA66, as a type REG_DWORD value. Set the data value to 1.

Shutdown and restart your computer.
