Hi,
I need to enable AIX audit on AIX 5.3 system.
I've read the security guide but I'd like to see some example.
I have to modify the files in /etc/security/audit right?
What would be a good start point of enabling audit without affecting system performance too much?

Thanks in advance.

man audit

I normally create a file system away from / to keep the audit files seperate.

Code:
/etc/security/audit/config

start:

        binmode = on
        streammode = off

bin:
        trail = /audit/trail
        bin1 = /audit/bin1
        bin2 = /audit/bin2
        binsize = 1048576
        cmds = /etc/security/audit/bincmds
        freespace = 50000

stream:
        cmds = /etc/security/audit/streamcmds

classes:
        general = ........................

        root = general,SRC,mail,cron,tcpip,ipsec,lvm
        user1 = general,SRC,cron,tcpip
        user2 = general,SRC,cron,tcpip
        user3 = general,SRC,cron,tcpip

Thanks Mike for your response.
I'm checking audit manual and config files but not understanding very well the meaning of the entries in classes. That should specify what event should be audited right? What is SRC? Is there a doc that explains what all those entries are?

The config file I found on my system is the following but seems very confusing to me:

start:
binmode = on
streammode = off

bin:

start:
binmode = on
streammode = off

bin:
trail = /audit/trail
bin1 = /audit/bin1
bin2 = /audit/bin2
binsize = 10240
cmds = /etc/security/audit/bincmds
freespace = 65536

stream:
cmds = /etc/security/audit/streamcmds

Thanks again.

I created a separate fs for auditing. Now I should start auditing with those default values?

Thanks.
