I posted this on Reddit and wanted to share here as well.
I had been looking for an EMV solution for a while. I tried Ethor, Point, Clover and others. I ended up partnering with a private company and I now have a solution.
It requires at a minimum Aloha ver 6.7 BOH Windows 7 It DOES NOT require Aloha connect or Connected payments. The devices plug in to terms via USB cable. That is all the setup required by the restaurant. The company will do the rest of the programming needed.
Check out the video
It will also accept Apple Pay, Android Pay, NFC and other mobile wallets like Google. It does support pay at table options, but that requires additional infrastructure and more expensive devices.
You can reach me from the website below. I will not be posting company name or number publicly at request of company. One requirement to using this option, you will need to change Credit card processors.
Here are some questions of the common questions I have been asked so far.
Proper steps to start a tab and store card?
When you would like to start a tab, you would ring in the items and hit close then the new Credit card key. The credit card information will be stored locally as an encrypted payment on the check until you run an incremental auth or hit close for the final time which would close the check out for the final amount.
Any steps required if internet goes down?
Nothing is required to replay transactions. There is a configurable setting in the gateway setup file for how often store and forward transactions attempt to replay. When internet connection is restored offline sales will post retry according to these settings.
From a cashier standpoint when spooling there is a configurable setting for the floor limit or maximum amount that will be accepted in an offline state. Any check over this amount will be declined.
Adjusting tips (this would be different than you are used to)
You would reopen the check you want to change and hit the Tip key on the register and then once the tip has been adjusted hit close again. Our service will read the final amount being closed to the check if its adjusted before batch closure.
How to accept Google pay, Apple Pay, NFC and other on traditional payment methods.
These are already enabled on your device. When you go to tender, the device say tap/insert/swipe or just swipe/insert?
Will my rates go up?
We are doing everything we can to match your current rates or even beat them if we can. We do not expect your rates to increase. If you have had lots of charge backs, you will now be able to win those. This options is 100% PCI compliant.
I will find out if it will also accept PayPal very soon.
I hope this answers some of your questions.
