In the middle of a project I got the error scratch disk full message. Somehow I did manage to reset the memory for C rather than startup and secondary for my G drive. But, I'm afraid that in time one of them will "fill up" and I can't find where all these photos are going that I delete out but apparently filled up the scratch disk earlier. How do I actually empty the scratch disk and how on earth do I find it on my computer?

Hi Deelightful
The scratch disc is just a temporary space on your hard drive. When you open an image it temporary places the image there if you open an 20 mg image you should have at least 50 mgs min for that file. when you save or close an image it frees up that space. Set up your main scratch disc to the drive with the largest free space and set up the secondary to another drive.

thank you so much! I set up the primary from the "startup" to "C drive" and the secondary to "G drive" my external hard drive. So, if I'm understanding you correctly, when I leave Adobe..the scratch disk empties itself automatically..right? I was working on a large photo when I got that message. However, I emptied all of the "My photos" and even went into "My pictures"...turned the computer off...came back and tried to save that photo again...it wouldn't even rotate the photo for me...gave me the same error message even after I had closed EVERYTHING down. Thus Adobe had been closed out. What gives there? Thank you for your prompt reply. I am very green when it comes to all of this computer technology...learning a good bit but still very illiterate for the most part.

That is correct and when you rotate a photo it takes up a lot of ram and your scratch disc as long as you have plenty of room on yor drive you won't have a problem.

side notes:

scratch disk can get filled very quickly if u "save your undo -history" (whihc are ntohing but temp files)
to
adjust as many steps as u need in history by:
Edit-->Preferences-->General {[x]History States}

"I have no second HardDrive what should I do?"

also partitioning your hard drive (vs. adding another HD) will help and using second NON system partition on the same drive it better to be used for scratch that plain old C: drive ....
All the best!
