Empty inbox for Notes 6.x with Domino 5.x server

I was trying out Notes 6.0.2 client while still using our Domino 5.x server. After I changed the design of my local mail file to the version 6.x, the inbox was empty. I can still replicate with the server and the mail gets transferred, however it is not shown in the inbox. The inbox remains empty.

Does the 6.x design on a local mail file only work if the server is 6.x or am I doing something wrong?
