Try clearing up the event log. If that doesn't work, check out these technet aritcles.

This same thing happen to me a while back. It turned out to be currupted logs.
Go to services and stop event log service.
Backup all your *.evt files in winnt\system32\config
Delete the evt files.
Restart services then reboot the server.
You should start to see events logged again.
