EML files in WINNT\TEMP folder

I recently noticed hundreds of EML extention files in my C:\WINNT\TEMP folder. Can anyone tell me what these files are for and how there created. There filling up my C-Drive.

The only recent change I've made is I Deployed the Full-Text Indexing feature......

.eml (email data) files are created under a few circumstances. In your case, I would think they're being written as logs anytime the SMTP service accepts mail. Why it's being written to TEMP, I don't know...

I had this problem, scan this directory for virus's. I had badtrans on this directory, which caused all kinds of problems.

yes, it looks to be virus related. We had tons of those here across the network so you need to take care of it fast as it replicates to all shares. go to symantec and they should still have the article, just do a search for .eml. I forgot the particular virus but it was terrible.

j
