Anyone here install EMC PowerPath software?

I have a bundle of CDs I got from my EMC SAN, but I don't know what CD I use to install the AIX filesets.

Thanks!

AIX administrator:
powerpath: load balancing and redondance

------------------
San adminsitrator:
volume logix: LUn masking + admin Emc2
ecc:control center (hard)

-----------------------
cfgmgr -vl fcs0
powermt config
powermt display dev=all

Here are the CDs I have:
"Navisphere Host Based Agent/CLI"
"PowerPath Version 3.0 for UNIX" (I think I may need to use this)
"AIX Utility Kit With CLArray"

which on these 3 CDs will I need?

thanks!!!!

You got it!

I'm guessing that you're attaching to a CLARiiON. If so you'll need all three.

Code:
nim:/root>lslpp -L | grep -i navisp
  NAVIAGENT 6.5.0.3 C F Navisphere Disk Array
  NAVICLI 6.5.0.3 C F Navisphere Disk Array
nim:/root>lslpp -L | grep -i Powerpath
  EMCpower.base 3.0.5.0 C F PowerPath Base Driver and
  EMCpower.consistency_grp 3.0.5.0 C F PowerPath Consistency Group
  EMCpower.multi_path 3.0.5.0 C F PowerPath Multi_Pathing
                             3.0.5.0 C F PowerPath Multi_Pathing
nim:/root>lslpp -L | grep -i clarr
  CLArrayS3 5.2.0.7 C F CLARiiON Array Software

Do you have a login to the powerlink (powerlink.emc.com) website? There you'll be able to use the procedure generator to find out the following:
fibre (or SCSI) adapter firmware version
patch level (maintenance level and specific patches) required
PowerPath software (PLUS required PowerPath patches)
Misc CLARiiON software (Navisphere and CLArray)

With an EMc² SAN this should be enough:
"PowerPath Version 3.0 for UNIX"

Thanks Spamly.

No, I don't have the website for EMC. Can you please post the URL?

Thanks!

How important is:

Symmetrix.aix.rte 4.3.3.4 COMMITTED EMC Symmetrix AIX Support
Symmetrix.aix.rte 4.3.3.4 COMMITTED EMC Symmetrix AIX Support

What CD will this be located under?

thanks!

This will be a download from powerlink.emc.com. This is important as it is an ODM entry for the EMC disk. It will have the queue lengths and all other attributes set in ODM.

The filesets:
Symmetrix.aix.rte
Symmetrix.aix.rte

This is located on the other AIX servers on my site.
Can this be located on the EMC CDs? Or is this download only??

Thanks

Okay, I got the license key and its registered...I don't know what to do next....Do I need to run cfgmgr to AIX sees my disks? How can I check if I have the avaliable disks?

Thx

how are the disk connected? direct or a switch if a switch has it it been zoned for the server HBA's. itf so then run cfgmgr
if you don see the disk using th EMC command inq you might need to run emc_cfgmgr. after this youcan do powerpath software .

Hi Plamb! The server is connected to a switch. How can I verify that the disks are there? lspv or something else?

like I said run cfgmge when done do lspv you shoudl see the addtional disks, youi can also do lsdev -Cc disk, or run inq(emc command) path for it isi /usr/lpp/EMC/SYmmetric there you will see 2 versions inq.aix32 or inq.aix64 I cp and rename it to /usr/bin/inq. Tis depends on what version you installed

Thanks! I appreciate the help, and pardon my ignorance...I guess I see the disks now...I am really not sure what the fields are..

I am using "Inquiry utility, Version V7.3-487 (Rev 0.0)"

These are the fields I get:

DEVICE :VEND :pROD :REV :SER NUM :CAP(kb)

I know what device, Vendor, Serial number, and Capacity field means.

My question is how can I figure out how many LUNS are assigned to this certain server? and what their capacity is. I see way too many assigned (which was not intended)

are you running powerpath?? uif so you will see the hdiskpower device ie and the disk that belong to it examope if you use 2 HBA and powerptah you will see 3 devices with the same serial number hdiskpowerX hdiskX hdiskX also if you are using mulitple san side HBA you might see more hdisks, the key is the serial number.make sure youa root if noyt you will not see the size. run powermt display dev=all to see all your paths

got it thanks! now I go and create my volume groups and lv and fs....kinda scared :)

thanks for your help! (a star deserved)
