embedding image in xml using java

i just want to embed an image file into a xml file and retrieve it using xslt can anyone help me i want it using java and not any microsoft encoder like base64
purely java based or using any xml parser.

AFAIK, base64 is not a "microsoft" thing. base64 is a encoding standard, which has also been adopted by java in xerces2.

So you have your answer, use base64 encoding via xerces2 or some other proprietory base64 encoder.
