I'm trying to find information on the behavior of using "Embed All Fonts" and "subsetting fonts" on Windows Distiller 5. I'm working on creating a table or a chart on how the font embedding/subsetting works.
Info that I'm trying to determine:
- what type of fonts are automatically subsetted (OpenType, double-byte, CID encoding, etc) by Distiller?
- does subsetting override Embed All? or vice versa?
- with fonts that are automatically subsetted, can Embed All override that?
- are there certain font types that will always override Embed/Subset (depending of course on licensing restrictions)
- what happens with other language fonts for Japanese, Chinese, etc.
- does Acrobat override Postscript font embedding settings?
- and whatever else...
i have already run a tests on many of the possible combinations of Embed All/Subset/Always embed these fonts/Never embed these fonts (haven't finished the test yet). Still have several more combos left, plus i need to use more different font types (been using TrueType/TrueType CID) so far.
